99 LHS Ignition Issue

First of all, hello to everyone. My name is Metehan and I have a 99 Chrysler LHS.

About 5 months ago, my car overheated and died on the road. About 2 months ago, I decided to get it looked at. The mechanic found out that my water pump locked up and caused my timing belt to snap. We found pieces of the timing belt melted on the cam gears and all over the inside, etc....

Replace the water pump, tensioner pulley (it was broken and ball bearings were all over the place), and the starter. Also cleaned the melted pcs of timing belt from teh cam gears. The car is put back together as of last wk however we''re running into some road blocks.

When I crank it up, the engine shakes and idles very roughly. It runs very hesitantly and slow while taking off, but whenever I get on it, it goes as good as it used to. Once I start slowing down or stopping, it starts shaking and running roughly; almost dies. Check Engine sign indicated a P0352 error "Ignition Coil B" but AutoZone couldn''t tell me what this was. Pepboys told me bunch of different things that made sense half-way.

When I unplug the ignition coil wires on the right side of the engine, nothing happens to the engine. It runs same as all wires plugged in, which points me that either all or some of the cylinders are not firing on the right side.

I don''t understand how they won''t fire when I start the car but then start working properly when I go fast. I assume if the right cylinders were not firing, the car would not operate like its supposed to.

I''m confused as heck. Any ideas???

The code P0352 is Ignition Coil #2 Primary Circuit. I believe it has the coil on plug coils, and they should all be the same coil. An easy way to determine if the coil is bad is to switch the number 2 cylinder coil with another and see if your code goes to that cylinder. If you get a P0351 code then the coil is in the number one cylinder, a P0353 will have the coil in the number 3 cylinder. The last digit of the code tells you what cylinder the code is in. That is if it is the coil. If the problem turns out not to be the coil I can further assist you in dignosing the problem if you need it. What size motor does your car have?

Scotty89, I'll do what you advised today after work. A few things that I'm not sure about:

1) If only 3 out of 6 of my cylinders were firing while the car is accelerating, Wouldn't I feel the difference in power?
2) Why wouldn't the engine react or get affected when I start unplugging the coil wires on the right side?

If only three cylinders are firing there should be a noticable difference in power. When you unplug the coils and it doesnt affect the way the engine runs then that would indicate that the there is something wrong with the those cylinders. It doesnt neccessarly mean that if you unplug the coils and it doesnt change the engine that it is the coils. If you can tell me what motor you have i can better help you. And which side of the car are you calling the right side, Passenger or the Driver?

It has the 3.5 v6. I changed the #2 coil but it did not make a difference. I'm mentioning the Driver side to be the right side, sorry. Here are some other things I've noticed:

1) If I drop it into Neutral while driving, it kills the engine. It starts back up after I stop, put it in Park, and crank it.
2) When I unplug the coils on the driver side, it doesn't throw any codes. It keeps giving the P0352 code.
3) After driving for about 30min, the Check Engine light starts blinking. Then after a while, it stays on.

I did try changing the coils but it kept giving me the P0352 code. PepBoys told me a thousand things that might be wrong, here are some of the things they mentioned:

1) Out of timing
2) Crankshaft sensor is bad
3) Computer is "confused"
4) Broken/bent valve

The part where you said that when you unplugded the coils and didn't give you any codes has me puzzeled. When you unplugged the coils you should of had a code of some sort come up or multiple codes.

Yeah, that's my bad. I never reset the codes. I just did it again today, reset the codes and then it gave me a P0172, rich mixture???? My A/C is not working either, not blowing any cool air.
