waterpumps

hello again, remember me ??
I had my waterpump replaced a few months ago. Today I was driving and noticed a small puddle under the waterpump. I was thinking it was the a/c stuff dripping. But I saw a small dot of water on the waterpump. Could it go out that fast??

If your car is set up right, you should have about 60-70% ethylene glycol in your rad and cooling system, not water.

The puddle should have been a noticable 'greenish' or blueish color, and feel more slippery to the touch than pure water.

It would be odd for your garage to just put back pure water into your vehicle...

But where are you located? maybe you don't need/use antifreeze where you are. Still antifreeze also helps in HOT climates because it raises the boiling temperature of the cooling mixture, preventing boil-overs on the highway.

Also, if your car is fairly new, it should have an automatic overflow catch-bottle on the passenger side under the hood that looks like your windshield washer fluid tank (have you ever filled either of these tanks before?)

Your windshield washer should have dark blue fluid in it while the radiator coolant would be more a greenish yellow.

Anyway, AC units often dump water on the ground under a parked car with the AC running. This would be harmless.

If you are not losing any fluid or overheating (check the temperature on your dashboard) then there is possibly no problem at all.

There may be nothing wrong with your car.

Get a trusted friend to help you check these things so you don't get fleeced by an unscrupulous salesman.

I bought that orange stuff for the radiator when they fixed it.
my car is a 96 lumina. the a/c wasnt on. maybe it was on for a few seconds,I dont remember. but a few places I stopped today I didnt notice any more water. I opened the radiator cap,and it looked like water, not the orangey stuff. but the temp gage was fine.

I"m a girl that freaks out of little stuff. That is why I'm glad I found this site.
I havent posted in a while cause everything has been fine.

All water levels are fine. Just no orangey looking fluid wich makes me a little upset cause I personal bought it and gave it to the mechanic, and told him see this label on the hood.. it calls for this. he new. who knows. maybe it was deluted down from to much water.

I"m in las vegas, our weather is hot now. I think it was 113. When I get out to the car in the morning,I have to run the a/c just to cool my car off from sitting in the hot garage all night. Then I dont use it at all. Gas is to high to use it. I roll the windows down. Gotta save gas, right?

Well, thanks for answering me. I will keep a eye on it. as I did today.

Talking Re: waterpumps

Last Friday I drove to the office, came out about 20minutes later, and saw alot of water/antifreeze on the ground,I said oh sh**,so I poped the hood, and it was coming out of that small hose from the manifold the the water pump. back flow hose maybe,I forgot the name, autozone looked it up for me. 2.50 I think. so I bought some black tape, and 50/50 antifreeze. I taped it up really really good. got it home, and I let it cool off for about 2hours. Iwent out and replaced it. I couldnt believe it,it only had a small pen hole of a hole. I guess that is why my low coolent light kept coming on after I replaced the water pump, slowwwwwwwwwwww leak. Hmmm, cars are wierd. I"m just blessed I didnt blow up the engine, and god surely does watch me. I also guess its to be expected cause I do live in Las Vegas. its fr**ken hot out here.
