trooper 96 noise P/S pump

I have a leaking line on my 96 trooper(not the pressure one) I change the line and clean the reservoir, and put in fresh power steering fluid. It work fine for a week, and after, a noise was notice and the P/S start working erratic some time was hard and some soft. I check the user manual and find out that the P/S use transmission oil Dexron IIE and not regular P/s fluid.
I flush the system by taking one the returning line and run the engine while putting trasmission oil in and when the transmission came out I reconnect the line. it seems to work fine for a day or so. It start the noise again. I check the pump and clean it and made sure the rotor and vane work fine, clean the valve and found that the spring inside the pressure line was interfering with the screw at the pump connection, so i remake the pressure line, but still having the same problem some time the p/s work and some time not, no leaking so far. Any idea?

Re: trooper 96 noise P/S pump

In order to completely bleed the system, you also have to turn the steering wheel lock to lock a couple of times while adding the new fluid. Once you have all fresh fluid, then you must repeat the lock to lock steering wheel turns a couple times to bleed any air that may have gotten in to the system. DO NOT rev up the engine while doing this, just let it idle...it will foam the fluid especially if there is any air if you don't. Check the level and that should be it. I don't know if the PS fluid you used could have hurt the pump, but I would not rule it out. Is the belt properly adjusted and clean?
Let us know how you make out. Good luck.
