Cool 98 Plymouth Grand Voyager AC Not Working

Hi,
First let me say that Im new to this site. Im sure glad I found it in search of the diagnosis of my AC problems! Im hoping someone can shed some light on the situation!
I have a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE. It has 122000 mi. I just bought it a few months ago and have came acrosss a few minor problems and all have been easy DIY projects (couple of blown fuses, wiper replacement etc..) Recently, I noticed the AC stopped working (it was only tested once when I bought it, but have not used it since)
I have no idea where to begin the diagnosis. Is there a fuse connected to the functioning of the AC? I really dont know a whole lot about cars, but im pretty good at fixing things in general.
Money is kinda tight at the moment and if its something that I can do at home, that would be great. Id appreciate any feedback!

Re: 98 Plymouth Grand Voyager AC Not Working

Take it to a an automotive shop and have them diagnosis the AC. Maybe you will be lucky and it just needs a refrigerant recharge, Cars don't hold a charge forever because the freon leaks out through the rubber hoses over time.
If you are not lucky, maybe the compressor is bad, the evaporater or condensor could be shot.

Under the hood there in the power distrubution box is a 15 amp clutch relay fuse you can check
also a AC clutch relay, you can swap it out with one that you know works.

the most coomon problem is a freon leak. Pick up a chargeing kit for about 45 dollors
20 0z can. And charge the system. If it last less then a year, you have a prety big leak.
Then bring it in for proffessonialms service.

Bringing mine in this week for the same reason

You can buy a can of refrigerant charge & sealer in one, it worked for me, if it keeps leaking, you can locate leaks with a liquid leak detector( available at some auto parts stores) The most common leaks are from the rubber hoses, as someone else said, they can be replaced also, but then additional tools and know how are required.

Re: 98 Plymouth Grand Voyager AC Not Working

It may be 5 year old, but one of us is having this problem as we speak. I have used the calibration I found online a couple of times, successfully, but it doesn't complete anymore. The fans are not working, either, though they can be jumped and DO work

I have owned this van since I bought it in the showroom, like it, even with it's eccentricities.

The fans stopped in SF, CA, a couple of years ago and I drove it back to OK with no fans, including a stop in Sedona, AZ on the way.

I have had it in a shop, the fans worked for about 5 minutes ,after I got it out then quit again. Since then, I have babied it around town when needed, usually if spouse needs her car that day.

The AC worked, until I changed the battery, now the calibration fails.
