400 Help
How much horsepower do you want to pay for? If you are looking to go cheap then get a 440 magnum cam, Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake and Carb, mill the heads .020" and put on a set of headers. Should give you about 325-350 horsepower. Cost about $800 by the time you are done. If you want to make it even cheaper, then just get a stock 383 or 400 4 barrel intake with the 440 magnum cam, Thermoquad carb, mill the heads .020". Should make about 300-325 horsepower and cost under $400 depending on where you live.
If you have money to burn go find a 440 core block and rebuild it with good forged pistons, edelbrock heads, performer rpm intake and headers and you can make about 500-550 hp and run on pump gas. And you can drive the car in the mean time. The 440 will bolt right in place of the 400. The only drawback is the trans and the rearend will not take that much power without being upgraded, so look to spend more to do it right. Good luck. |

360 v8, stock was 340 hp
my Fury III came stock with a 340 hp 360 ci engine. one of the previous owners had raced it amaeurly and the track guidlines was only 2 barrel carbs. so he installed the biggest Holly 2 barrel at the time. plus i have 2 inch split duals with glasspacks, but thats to intimidate those stupid ricers.

Re: 1974 Plymouth Fury III
my fury came with a 318wedge motor, i like it sounds good, and runs good, but i think it has like around 230hp, my 67 fury on the other hand had the 290hp 390lbs 383 in it that was a real road burner, and the open y-pipe helped out alot
