2000 Windstar Stalls in Winter when Humid
The last two winters we have experienced stalling during acceleration with a warm engine - several times in the middle of traffic. The problem only seems to occur when it is warm and humid - typically rainy days. Last year, the shop couldn't really find anything wrong, but now says we have 174/175 trouble codes and believes the problem is the 03-16-1 TSB. Gas mileage stays pretty steady - 18 around town and 23 on the highway.
Anyone else have similar stalling problems that the TSB fixed? Any ideas on the warm/humid winter part - maybe vacuum leaks drawing in too much moist air? |

Re: 2000 Windstar Stalls in Winter when Humid
One thing to try......when it is acting up.....at night.....at a very dark location, lift up the hood....and press down on the under hood light button to turn it off.......
Then look around (keep fingers and clothing out) for any signs of arcing.... Look around the spark plug wires, and the coil pack. It is possible that the plug wires are going bad.....and the coil pack can develop cracks in the epoxy body.....that can lead to arcing in there also. This is the type of thing that will get worse as moisture goes up.
