Uphill vs downhill
Let's say a 4 cylinder 130 hp car is racing a V8 car with much more hp, and the V8 car wins (on a level road). If they were racing downhill, would the V8 car win by a bigger margin, or a smaller one? What about uphill?

if your talkin in a straight line yea sure, the added power of the v8 will accell even more and gravity will do its thing. its like saying what will roll down faster, a can of soup or a barrel of oil. uphill would be the exact same, unless the 4 cyclinder has a really tight gear box. but yet again i could be wrong...

So would the V8 win by a bigger margin uphill or downhill?
It seems to me that whatever happens uphill, the opposite should happen downhill. I think the gap between the would be bigger uphill, but I could be wrong. |

well, there is too many variables like i said. things like gearing, how much the car actually weighs, things like that. i think its that you'vce watched initial d also. thats because tehre is turns. u say staright line, so the v8 should win.... since it won on a flat surface already, if you get what i mean.

Going up hill you usually need all the power you can get, as long that doesn't come with increased weight.
Going downhill you are helped by gravity, so how fast the car can go through tuns will become much more important to the overall result. If you go downhill in a straight line, a higher mass will also help. |
