Cannot Located Keyless Entry Code - 2001 Taurus SEL 24V
I recently purchased a 2001 SEL Taurus with the 24V motor. I have been pleased with the car thus far, but have an issue I simply cannot figure out.
This car has the keyless entry pad on the driver's door (actually a part of the door handle). I was not able to recover the code from the previous owner of the car and I don't know the default factory code. The user manual says I can find that factory code (5 digits) on a sticker on the computer, from a wallet card in the glove box (which I don't have), or from the dealer. I already asked the dealer and they shrugged and sent me packing. The problem I'm having is trying to solve where this sticker is on the computer. The Haynes manual says the computer is on the firewall (in the engine bay) on the passenger side. I see a module there.. but I can't see any obvious 5 digit codes stuck to it. This is the PCM.. is that what the user manual means by the computer? Even if that is the computer, the sticker that is on the top of the module has no five digit codes on it. Can anyone give me some hints with this? Thanks a lot! - Dustin |

Re: Cannot Located Keyless Entry Code - 2001 Taurus SEL 24V
The "computer" the manual is referring to is the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module. I'm not sure about the 2001 model year. On the prior generation Taurus, the RKE module was mounted under the dash, to the left of the accelerator pedal. If you rest your head on the floormat looking up between the brake and accelerator pedal, there will be two modules mounted vertically. One will have two connectors coming out of it. On my 1998, the sticker was on the side of the RKE module, of course on the side between the two modules. With a bright light, if I turned my head just right and closed one eye, I was able to read the 5 digit default code.
Check your Haynes manual for the location of the RKE module. If you don't find anything on that, check for just "keyless" and if that fails, reference the wiring diagrams for the power door locks and see what Haynes calls it. -Rod |

Thanks, ignore the part of PM about this then.
If I could get that diagram for the PCV valve replacement on the 24V motor.. that would be great! |

The dealer can pull the code from your pcm if all else fails, probably talking 75-100 dollars to do it,, exhaust all other options first... I've looked thru all my books and cd's trying to find the procedure to do this, no luck,, it may require the dealer's specialized equipment to read it anyhow..

Worst case, if you find the RKE module but no readable sticker, you can remove the module, open it up, and look at the resistor locations. From that, you can determine what the factory default code is (and change the default code if you'd like). Of course, once you remove the module, you will probably find the code sticker on it somewhere.

Re: Cannot Located Keyless Entry Code - 2001 Taurus SEL 24V
My 2001 service manual is corrupt, so I pulled up the power lock system for the 2002 Taurus. It appears the remote keyless entry may be controlled through the Generic Electronic Module (GEM), so that is probably the module you need to check for the 5-digit code. The GEM module is listed as "Behind dash panel, LH side." It would appear that it rides piggyback with the instrument cluster fuse panel.
