polishing tamiya pearl clear

Hey,

i just bought myself a can of tamiya PEARL clear. I know you have to put a clear coat over metallics before you polish, or else you will polish the flakes out, but does this count for pearl also? Do i need to put a regular clearcoat over the pearl clear, or can I just polisch the pearl clear out.

thx

Re: polishing tamiya pearl clear

Same applies for pearls as for metallics, you need to apply a clear coat before polishing.

Re: polishing tamiya pearl clear

so if I put the colour, then a light coat of pearl clear and followed by a heavy coat of normal clear it should be ok for polishing?

Re: polishing tamiya pearl clear

Don't go too heavy on the clear at once.Build it up in coats.
At risk of starting an argument with my first ever post here on the AF boards, not all metallic paint jobs need a clear coat.I've done a couple of cars in Tamiya metallic and didn't use a clear coat on them. While not having the depth of a custom style clear coat job,the shine was still very nice and the metallic bits didn't "lay down" and dull out.
