cheap 944 modifications

does anyone know any good ways to modify a 1984 944 non turbo...im going for better acceleration....anything can help

They come from the factory pretty much as they can run.
Intake & exhaust only offer slight gains.

You might just try modding the suspension, as these cars are meant to handle GREAT, not be a stoplight or 1/4 mile racer.

I would just make sure the service is up to date (Timing belt/balance belts) ect.

Just enjoy nit for what it is...a perfectly balanced, well made true sports car that gets great MPG!

Isnt there a chip you can buy...*looking it up in Performance Products catalog* yeah it isnt worthe it Pwerchip is claiming up to "10% more power" for NA 944 and it basically just tunes it to run on a higher octane gas. 143hp-160hp running 93 octane. Its going for $440...ouch...

Like many people have said there isn’t much you can do cheap. Your main focus should be handling. However I think I understand where you are coming from in that you just want to be a little more respectable power wise. So fear not you do have options. The first thing and the cheapest would be N20. Now I know what your thinking "nitrous is for ricers or I want the power all the time." However think about it for a second. How often do you really want or need that extra power? Nitrous is perfect because you can keep your decent gas mileage when you are just commuting and then when you want to have a little fun you can use the juice. There are a lot of 944 guys running nitrous and are not having any problems. A 50hp shot would be no problem. The next option you have is you could supercharge your 944. There are a few kits out there but they aren’t cheap and in the end it would just be cheap to buy a 951.
Now if the 944 is really a car you like and want to stick with the best choice if you really want more power would be a swap. Their are soo many options you could choose from, like a Chevy LS1 or LT1 swap (seen it done very cool) with that you will have crazy American power with German handling. Then there is the rotary swap option or Nissan SR20DET etc... So many engines to choose from each with their ups and downs. If any of this interests you let me know and we can talk more.

Just get a decent Turbo model and replace all the ancient rubber bushes and struts and get on with driving the beast...
