help urgent help please please

Hello Dears :

for the past two years my jeep Grand Ch stopped working for more than six times ... four of them were because of Fuel pump ,,,, two of them because of the coil....

Today I went to visit a school in the mountain ... when I left the school and sat in my jeep it did not run ... I checked the fuel... it was ok ... then I changed the coil ... It did not work ...

I tested the coil electricity cord and I found no electricity ... I used a lamp and it did not work ...

So please can anyone tell me what the problem is ...

I thought that the senior can be the problem... But I changed this item last year ...

Therefore I need your help

Re: help urgent help please please

I cant decipher the codes the way they are posted..use this method then find the appropriate code---

To query and OBD-I-era computer for these codes, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to run (not start), then off, then run, then off, then run (that's 3 runs and 2 offs). Leave the key in the run position. The check engine light will turn on for a few seconds, then turn off, then (sometimes after 20-30 seconds) start flashing. The flashes are counting out 2-digit trouble codes. Fast flashes count up each digit, with a longer pause between digits

Code Description
11* No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking.
12* Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles.
13** No difference recognized between the engine MAP reading and the barometric (atmosphereic) pressure reading at start-up
14** MAP sensor input below minimum acceptable voltage.
or
MAP sensor input above maximum acceptable voltage.
15** No vehicle distance (speed) sensor signal detected during road load conditions.
17* Engine coolant temperature remains below normal operating temperatures during vehicle travel (thermostat).
21** Neither rich nor lean condition detected from the oxygen sensor input.
or
Oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above the normal operating range.
22** Engine coolant temperature sensor input above maximum acceptable voltage.
or
Engine coolant temperature sensor input below minimum acceptable voltage.
23** Intake manifold air temperature sensor input above maximum acceptable voltage.
or
Intake manifold air temperature sensor input below minimum acceptable voltage.
24** Throttle position sensor input above maximum acceptable voltage.
or
Throttle position sensor input below minimum acceptable voltage.
25** A shorted condition detected in one or more of the idle air control motor circuits.
27* Injector #1 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
or
Injector #2 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
or
Injector #3 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
or
Injector #4 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
or
Injector #5 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
or
Injector #6 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
33* An open or shorted condition detected in the A/C clutch relay circuit.
34* An open or shorted condition detected in the speed control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits.
or
Speed control switch input below the minimum acceptable voltage.
or
Speed control switch input above the maximum acceptable voltage.

35* An open or shorted condition detected in the radiator fan relay circuit.
41* An open or shorted condition detected in the generator field control circuit.
42* An open or shorted condition detected in the auto shutdown relay circuit.
44* An open or shorted condition exists in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit or a problem exists in the PCM's battery temperature voltage circuit.
46** Battery voltage sense input above target charging voltage during engine operation.
47** Battery voltage sense input below target charging voltage during engine operation. Also, no significant change detected in battery voltage during active test of generator output.
51** Oxygen sensor signal input indicates lean air/fuel ratio condition during engine operation.
52** Oxygen sensor signal input indicates rich air/fuel ratio condition during engine operation.
53* PCM internal fault condition detected.
54* No fuel sync (camshaft signal) detected during engine cranking.
55* Completion of diagnostic trouble code display on the malfunction indicator lamp (check engine lamp).
62* Unsuccessful attempt to update SRI (service reminder indicator) miles in the PCM EEPROM.
63* Unsuccessful attempt to write to an EEPROM location by the PCM.

* - Check engine lamp will not illuminate at all times if this code was recorded. Cycle ignition key as described and observe code flashed by check engine lamp.

** - Check engine lamp will illuminate during engine operation if this code was recorded.

PCM = Powertrain Control Module (the engine computer)
MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure (the sensor that measures how hard the engine is sucking air through the intake manifold
EEPROM = Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (a type of computer chip used inside the PCM)

Re: help urgent help please please

Let's see if I can decode this.

FFFP
FFFFFP
35

FFFFP
FFFP
43

FFFP
FFFFFFFFP
38

FFFFFP
FFFFFP
55

I am NOT sure this is correct. I thought the codes were usually shown from the lowest number to the highest (in order). I would recheck them.

Take Care,

The codes are 12- code battery has been disconnected recently which you said you did. 54-code Camshaft or ( distributor sync. ) reference circuit--- no camshaft position sensor signal detected during engine rotation. 55- code is the end of codes. Do you have spark at plugs Dale

Jasim

Both Dale and Greg have taken a pretty good guess at what you might have been seeing for codes but if you look at the list Bob posted your original code list has a 38 and a 43 and those aren't on the list.

Unfortunately disconnecting the battery probably reset your computer and you lost the codes that were flashing.

Codes are two digit and the way you read them are first set of flashes is the first digit with a pause then the second set of flashes is the second digit then a pause, third set of flashes is the first digit of the second code and so on. A pair of fives= 55 and means you're at the end. You always get the 55.

Leave that battery connected for now and maybe start by telling us what you got Make/Model/Year etc.

NO sparks and no electricity at the coil cord at all while it is on the ON position and even when cranking

the story is that I parked the truck without any problem... I finished my jop and tried to turn it ... but it didn't

1993 Grand Ch Laredo

Thank you ...
by the way once the same thing happened with my friend's jeep so I told him to change the CPS he did it and it worked ... could that be the same with me ... I have just changed it one year back

I also unpluged the cord that comes from the disterbutor and the cord that goes to the sensor... I checked the voltage and found 9.5 v in both

Thanks for all of you

Does it try to turn over at all? You say you drove there, parked the Jeep and then when you finished and went out to leave it wouldn't start.

I'm wondering if it's the Neutral Safety Switch.

Try wiggling the shift handle.

Need to know if when you turn the key to on (not all the way to start) do you hear the fuel pump spin?

That does sound like the crankshaft position sensor - but that's just an educated guess... the vehicle has a lot of malfunction codes recorded.

Code 54

As Dale mentioned above, Code 54 is a "Cam Sync Signal Fault" or Cam Sensor issue. This was the only "real" code left after the battery was disconnected and then tried to start again.

According to one of the manuals I have, this means that there was no signal from the Cam sensor (in the distributor area) while cranking WITH Crankshaft Position signal present.

This would seem to indicate that the CPS is at least partially functional.

The manual says to inspect all wiring around the cam sensor. But since you had a "sudden failure" I would suspect the sensor itself.

I believe there is a link in the "Cherokee" forum to where you could download the Factory Service Manual (FSM). I just haven't been able to find it.

Take Care,

I'm with Greg.

The fuel pump goes, the vehicle cranks to attempt to start, and you have a code 54.

I would start by cleaning every contact related to that sensor in the distributor. If that doesn't fix it put a new one in.

Considering where you live Jamsin I'd start keeping a box of basic parts with you whenever you go out.
