Question Dupli-Color clear over Tamiya color

I searched the forum, cause I know this topic comes up from time to time. But, I found some disagreement on the success of this combination. I am planning to use Duplicolor clear over a Tamiya color spray. Has anyone had success or failure with this combination? I know Duplicolor works great over Testors laquers and vice-versa, but I am wondering about Tamiya. If anyone has tried this, how long did you have to wait before spraying the clear?

Re: Dupli-Color clear over Tamiya color

Wouldn't want to do that before trieing on scrap part, I don't have good expiriance with Dupli color clear coat, it destroyed few of my paint works (never used it with Tamiya but all others were Acrylic automotive paints). And if the decals are thin (Italeri, S27 etc.) it will certanly destroy them.
For me only dupli color on dupli color.

Re: Dupli-Color clear over Tamiya color

Update:

Well, I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. Worst case is I have to strip and repaint.
So anyway, I sprayed about 5 coats of Tamiya Mica Blue over Plastikote primer. I allowed it to dry overnight (about 10 hours) and then started spraying the Duplicolor clear. I have about 6 coats on now, and it is looking very good. I was really concerned about the clear burning through the edges, but there are no signs of that, even with the heavy coats.
I think I am going to end up using the entire 11oz. can on this one model. This will be great if this works. Now I am able to break away from both Testors and Tamiya clear.

I use duplicolor clear on anything, Works with no bad reactions as long as you do very light mist coats.

yep, as long as you use microsol to put the decals on, duplicolor goes over them fine.
