steering help

do any of you know what would cause the steering wheel to lock? I'm having that problem where my steering wheel locked and it won't turn in any direction. I was driving my car earlier today and made a turn, but then the steering wheel just locked and I could not get the wheels to straighten back. I added power sterring fluid but I think it might be more complex than that. any help is greatly apreciated.
