Schumi boring" - Irvine

According to Eddie Irvine Schumi is the most boring world champion ever.
Eddie is always honest and has made Formula 1 more spicy especially with his interviews. He has got a point that Schumi is boring.

Schumi has got his emotions under control and seems quite robotic. I think that's the only the way to be that strong. Control is everything.

I disagree with Eddie about the fact that Schumi would have overtaken Alonso at Imola in the same conditions three years ago. From my point of view it was impossible to overtake Alonso.

Alonso kept the gap always closed, never braked too late so Schumi could overtake him and drove through the corners relatively slowly so he could exit the corners perfectly. And at the end of the race he just backed of a little bit when he saw backmarkers he needed to double which would have also been an opportunity for Schumi to overtake him.

From my point of view, Schumacher has got 2 worthy opponents now: Alonso and Raikkonen.

I like Eddie, but his problem of the few last years that it's only through his interviews that he's trying to make F1 "spicy".

Schumacher is not out there to win the comic award, he's there to do his job, which is race and win. This is also the reason why I don't like when people say Kimi is boring. He can be deaf and numb for all I care, as long as he does his talking on the track, which he does.

Of course "all Irvine had to do" was overtake Mika at Suzuka ...

Re: Schumi boring" - Irvine

Shumacher couldn't overtake Alonso at Imola because he never had the chance. Alonso controlled him out of the corners so Schumacher couldn't get an overlap. The only move he could have made would be a good old Schumi kamakazi punt. Would have been a good outcome for Wurz but that is about it.

Speaking of Kimi, whenever I see him in a press conference I almost expect him to pull a Mika like joke or two. So far he has dissapointed me.

I bet Irvine didn't think Schumi was boring when he was kicking his arse as a team mate.

Alonso actually controlled Schumacher in the middle of the corners and made no mistakes; very good and mature drive by him.

No such thing as a middle of a corner - there is only and exit and entry! Brake all the way in, accelerate all the way out, anything else would be coasting!

When you do it right, it's boring. In F1 they go all out in qualifying. During the race, the only important thing is who finishes first in the last lap. Driving like hell for 99 out of 100 laps and then smoking the car doesn't win

Jim Clark was "boring"

I'm sure Nuvolari was exciting...he literally drove himself to death. but then again, driving skill and talent alone doesn't win you a Championship- finishing races does

For short radius corners, this is correct, but there are corners out there that have a large enough radius and a long enough arc or there is less available acceleration than the car will take at full throttle where you are maintaining the same speed, which is when mid-corner balance comes in. 130R at Suzuka and Parabolica at Monza come immidiately to mind.

And that is exactly why it is a mid-corner situation. It's right on the verge of being flat out or not, and I would bet that if you looked at the telemetry, even taken flat that the car would slow down due to tire scrub through the corner. If the car is not just right in mid-corner, then it can't be taken flat.

Re: Schumi boring" - Irvine

Good grief, can't you tell I'm having a pull of Alex's leg and he mine. The part you highlighted is there because one corner is only part of a whole lap, setting up an F1 car to take a specific corner like 130R a particular way will lead to compromises elsewhere. It may be fun to do so, but to the detriment of lap times. Besides, in an F1 car the limit is the grip of the tyres, lateral forces will impact the amount of brake or acceleration that can be applied at any one specific time.

Schumacher is one of the greatest ever. Doesn't matter if you like him or not

Fangio, Nuvolari, Ascari, Moss, Clark, Villenueve, Senna...they are Gods. Your personal opinion doesn't change that Schumacher is among that group, like it or not
