Going to try out the new tires this weekend

Well, I got a set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets today. They're so much softer than my bfg drag radials. We're having a big meet in Greenville,MS this weekend, so I'm looking to try them out. Best 60ft on the bfgs was a 1.74, so I'm really looking to get in the 1.6s with the new tires/rear end setup.

I'll post up results and opinions on these tires Sunday.

The guy that owns the track had these for a mustang, but ended up not using them, so I got them for $225. I couldn't pass up the deal on them, plus I've been having a hard time finding true slicks to fit on a stock tahoe wheel. Plus, I really want a D.O.T tire for the street class races. These require a D.O.T approved tire, and I've heard that the MT ET Streets are the best in that class.

clawhammer- Haven't got all the parts I want to use yet. I've decided to run a stand alone setup, so now I'm waiting on my 1 gal fuel cell, fuel pump, etc. I decided on this so I could run a high octane mix with the nitrous to reduce chances of detonation/pinging. I'm just being paranoid about it, but I do want the motor to last.

Pansy... just rig up a house hold spray bottle nozzle in the intake stream that you can pump manually from inside the cab.

That is a good deal. I sure would like to find a set of 31x14 inch slicks for that!

You're probably better off sticking with DOT approved tires for now though, becuase once you go slicks, you got a little more rules to follow. For starters, any vehicle running faster then 13.99 in the 1/4 or 7.35 in the 1/8th on slicks has to have a drive shaft loop.

And when you get N02, you're going to be into the 11s, very easily, and if you get faster then 11.49 in the 1/4 or 7.49 in the 1/8th (provided you ever run at an 1/8th mile only track) then you pretty much have the same safety requirements that I have (fire extinguisher, minimum of 6-point roll bar, 5-point belts), with the exception of having to have after market axels and rentention devices, a transmission shield, a SFI 18.1 approved harmonic balancer, and a full rollcage. All of those rules would kick in if you get faster then 10.99 in the 1/4 or 6.99 in the 1/8th.

As for me, all the 1/8th and 1/4 tracks close to me are opening this weekend for test and tune, and all start racing within 2 weeks. I plan on going to some of these tracks atleast 10 times this season (my local 330 track probably won't be opening, which sucks becuase it was only about 35-45 minutes from home). In order to do so though, I have to get new seat belts (mine are out of date) and before I can race anywhere, I need new slicks. SO, probably within a couple months, I'll have some actual 1/8th times to post instead of just estimates based off of past 1/8th and 330 runs. I'm expecting to be somewhere in the high 6.60s to low 6.80s though. I'm also looking for very high 1.30 or very low 1.40 60 ft. times with new slicks and much better hooking tracks then what I usually run on.

This is funny to say, but I hope I dont get faster then 6.49 (which I'm not looking to) because that will put me in a different rules class (all of what I have to have now plus a flexplate and license--all of these rules are from an IHRA rule book for the Summit Sportsman Series, which is bracket racing and thats what all tracks run except for when there's a national event taking place).

Here's my update on this weekend. The et streets are awesome to say the least. At our local track, the best I could ever muster up was a 12.8 on the bfgs. I got my best time to date Saturday with a 12.50@105.96mph over my previous 12.54. This may not seem to be that great, but considering the difference at that track, it is tremendous for me. I now know I can see a low 12 sec pass at Hattiesburg.

Best 60ft on the bfgs was a pathetic 2.2 on a nonexistent prepped track. Best 60ft saturday was a 1.84(still not my best to date, but a world better than the normal 2.2) I'm really anxious to go back to Hattiesburg on the mickeys, because I definately believe I can pull a 1.6 60ft there. My only complaint on these tires was that it kinda swayed alittle bit down the track sometimes(I would assume due to the sidewalls being soft and low air pressure), while the bfgs always drove like street tires down the track(really smooth).
I would also get alittle swirly past the 60ft mark sometimes(like on my 1-2 shift). I guess what little track prep they did only extended to the 60ft mark, so if it was really hard into it, it would get sideways.
I tried a 2000rpm launch as well. Truck came out unbelievably hard, but I got alittle wheel hop, killing my 60ft. On a well prepped track(such as Hattiesburg,Memphis,etc.), that run should have put me in the 12.3-12.4 range easily with a set of traction bars.

Other things I noticed. The tires were an absolute bitch to mount on the 16x8 wheels. We had a tough time getting the bead to pop out, and finally did so with an unbelievable amount of air pressure.
The mickeys are a good bit lighter than the bfgs. They also seem to warm up faster and with less effort. They also wear better than the bfgs. I'll have some vids up tonight of a few of my runs, as well as my buddies extended cab running on my old bfgs. He had no trouble hooking them, and he also bested his times Saturday. Stay tuned, and my vote now goes to the et streets over the bfg drag radials for street class track tires.

I won every race I had Saturday. I raced 5 different mustangs, 2 camaro z28s, 1 camaro ss, a diesel truck, an old muscled out looking car(didn't catch what it was), a new honda sport 4wheeler , and some trucks similar to mine(in appearance).
None of the races were very close.
