help! I have no headlights

I had been having a problem previously, the high beams didnt work, and only one turn signal worked. The other turn signal would work if you pulled the lever for the high beams forward to ALMOST where you would be switching to high and held it there.. low beams worked OK, but if lever for highs accidentally got "clicked" no headlights at all. now i have no headlights EVER, and both turn signals require that you hold the high beam /turnsignal lever in the almost high beam position in order to get them to work.there is no longer a "click" when you pull this lever toward you. What is broken, and how do i fix it? I have to fix this car myself, so if you could make the explaination so that a kindergartener could grasp it, that would help.

there is a white switch down on the steering column that gets worn out. so you have to replace it. i have the same exact problem with mine. i have to put the switch in. its on the inside of the car. i don't know if that will fix the turn signals also though. i find that when i have my wheel tilted all the way up my signals don't work to well.

well that sounds promising. i bought a switch, but i have no idea how to install it. do you have to take off the plastic bit that covers up the place where the steering wheel comes out? or are you talking about the piece that plugs in behind the buttons you push to turn on the headlights and parking lights? i couldnt get the thing that covers up the steering wheel off. not strong enough, but if thats what has to come off, Ill figure out a way. just dont want to bother if thats not it.
