Do your research first..
03-04 cobras have a blower. If you can afford this car, in my opinion id go for this over any other mustang. |

Re: buying a new 4.6 or a old 5.0
i am personally a 4.6l fan but i own one so it happends. Well u gotta take this into accout 5.0 has alot more market at the moment then the 4.6l. now due to supply and demand and the prue fact there are less moded 4.6l. The 4.6l is more expensive to mod. The 4.6 is a more advanced engine over the 5.0 but the 5.0 is basic and it freckin works. I personaly think the new mustang is more sexy and if ur planing on getting a cobra then i would learn that way.

What kind of driving are you going to be doing in this car? After driving both this is what I think about both cars.
5.0 = torque monster where the most fun you'll have in it is cruising the streets 4.6 = high end engine that's not a bad cruiser but will tear up the highway

What do you need for an 800 RWHP 5.0? 1500+ dollar block, 800 dollar crank, 600 dollar rods, 700 dollar pistons, 1900 dollar heads, etc. What do you need for an 800 RWHP 4.6? 400 dollar cobra crank, 600 dollar rods, 700 dollar pistons, 800 for porting on your stock heads. Oversimplified, sure, but once you want to go past about 500 RWHP with a 5.0 the huge cost of an aftermarket block, a good crank, and some great flowing heads REALLY piles on quick, while with a 4.6 you have a lot of good factory parts available. |

Re: buying a new 4.6 or a old 5.0
well im gunna have to stick with the 5.0. im a little biased because i own one but lets look at it this way...the cobra is gunna set ya back about a lot more than lets pick the 93 fox body. lets say you spen 20k on the cobra{no idea what a good condit. cobra costs} but say you get a 20k cobra ok thats is a nice ride. option two you get a 5k fox body that needs a little work. you obviously have brothers that have hevily modded cars if u take after them {im sure u do} you would have the ability{and help} to buy a 6 cyl. pull it out and put a sportsman 347 short block for 3k. then put on some 1500 afr 205. 2k strim.400 in cams 2k in suspension/chaisy. 2k in tranny. 1k in the rear end, that brings us to about 1500 so you still have 5 k to get all the stuff i left out like vaulve train, tires, body work, ignition, computer, etc. and that will im pretty sure be faster than the cobra. now if you dont want a car to be so exstensivly modded and more daily drive than stay wiht the 93 fox in a 302...put on a blower, h,c,i and tranny and call it a day. i no their is a lot more work invloved but your bro has a 347 you two could work off what he likes and does not like about his car. but if you are willing to put the work into it i think without a doubt i would get a fox. the craig

Re: buying a new 4.6 or a old 5.0
If this is going to be your first real muscle car, than i must agree with boosted331. The fox bodys are an awesome car, especially if you find one that has been taken well care of since it was new. I would suggest taking a ride/driving a fox with a 5.0 and a newer (99+) witha 4.6 mustang. I have done this and i settled with the 5.0 just cuz of it's killer torque and off idle power, that makes it a load of fun on the street.
