autometer tach install
Hey, just bought a used tach off the partstrader, but it didn't come with the base to mount it. Its got the ring around the tach but thats it/ I would like to put it between the guagecluster and the left pillar. Does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to mount it.
Also, could someone please tell me how to wire it. I imagine i'll just pop the gauge cluster out and wire it to the harness where a tach would be. Its the Pro-Comp 2 tach w/memory if that helps, and it believe it has like 4 wires coming out of it.

Dont have any ideas on how to mount it but maybe you could make one yourself. As for the wiring...you could wire it to the back of the guage cluster but your not getting the real reading of the tach. If you wire everything up to the engine itself then it works better. One wire is for the light on the tach, on is for ignition and the others are power and ground.

Hey dude..I think you'll get a better reading from the engine too. The blue wire near the distributor will give you the signal you are looking for. When I installed mine I got a pack of $0.50 grommets and used one for the hole in the firewall so I wouldn't have the wire wearing thru on metal.
This pic is of my tach hookup on my DX, but I think the ZC should be the same. Not sure how to help you with the mounting...I wish peeps that sell stuff didn't keep the parts they can't use...sell the complete kit!!! - You may be able to contact the company and they might have a mounting bracket laying around and will ship it to you at low cost??? As for your other post about wiring it, I hooked mine up to the a fuse related to the ignition, although the radio hookup should work..it is tough to stuff the wire in with the fuse...they make taps for our fuse blocks...I found them at Wal-Mart...they are kinda flimsy, and it is still a tight fit, but they work. I wired my light for the tach with my parking lights so they come on when the other gauge lights do.
