2000 Sonoma Highrider Brake Shaking
Hi,
I am new to this forum and hope someone here can help me out with a couple problems I have with my Sonoma Highrider. First the main problem I am having, just started happening after replacing the brake pads on all 4 corners. My truck has 60,000 miles on it and is the first time I had to replace any of the pads. Picked up new front and rear pads (TRW) from local parts store. Replaced all, and now have some major shaking problems. When you first drive the truck in the morning it is not bad, sometimes the shaking is not there at all, but after about 10-15 minutes of driving at 50 mph than applying the brakes causes the truck to shake violently and you can feel a pulsing in the brake peddle as you apply the brakes. Also have a truck shimy at 50 mph when just driving. After a couple of months I decide to replace the brakes again, this time I went with Raybestos pads (Sept. 23, 2004). Took the previous pads off, cleaned everything really good with brake cleaner, regreased everything that needs to be greased, put new pads in, examined the rotors (no cuts, grooves, they don't even feel or look warped), rotated all the tires. Took truck out for a drive and guess what, same problems. What is wrong? Anyone else having these problems? What do i need to do to fix? Thanks for your help in advance. Mark |

I had a similart problem with my '95. Did you rotate your tires when you changed ur brakes? My bro-n-law tried to do me a favcr and rotated the tires. I didn't know the belts were shot and I couldn't feel the vibration when they were on the rear.

Re: 2000 Sonoma Highrider Brake Shaking
The shake when you apply the brakes is more than likely the rotors are warped. A few thousandths of an inch of run off can create a shake. So you would not be able to see that with your eyes. The only real way you would be able to know if the rotors were warped is to get them turned. But very few places turn rotors now because they are so cheap to buy. So I would try new rotors all the way around if you do have 4 wheel disk brakes. As for the 50 mph shimmy, it could be many thing. Worn out tires, mis-alligned tires, mis-ballanced tires, a worn out wheel bearing. There are so many things it's hard to tell.
