How long will a saturn last?
I bought my first saturn in March, and lets say I am not disappointed!
I knew I got ripped, $1400 for an eleven year old car with 180K on it already! BUT! With a manual tranny, I knew a possible life expectancy of 300K is not impossible, and the previous (one only!) owner took pretty good care of it. I am not so good I am afraid. I still havent changed the oil, and I have put 15K on it already since March. BAD GIRL[/color]! My question is, am I being unrealistic to expect to keep this car till it hits 300K? The alt just died (thanks for the info here, now I know how to get the thing out of that hole!) but other than that, it has been a dream car. It does have a bad bearing in the tranny, but being a manual, not a big deal. It has survived my daughter learning how to time the clutch with the gas for the past 3 months! (all 16 year olds should learn how to drive a stick BEFORE they get their drivers license!!) My last car was a $400 '87 VW FOX and it went to 250K before that blond ran the stop sign and pushed the engine into the firewall! I have had probly 5 cars go to 300K, but all had manual trannies. I average 60K per year driving, dont ask me how! all all |

Re: How long will a saturn last?
Yeah... it should last forever as long as you change the oil every 3K miles... in Illinois you may be able to wait 'till 5K, but with that many miles on it, I'd get the Valvoline Max Life or some other high-mileage oil in it every three thousand.

Re: How long will a saturn last?
I just got a 94 sl2 freebe with 260,000 on it, it runs great and is still in nice shape. Will see just how many miles a saturn can handle.

Saturn .I call it an American made Toyota.Simplest car on the USA market today.Do not like automatic ones.Crap.Prefer single overhead cam. They do burn oil ,but had so many exceptional.

Saturn 97 SL with 221000 miles
This car I bought used 5 or 6 yrs. ago, now I have 221000 miles and going strong. It seems that it will run forever. We will see.
The best car I ever had.(my other car is a 2001 MB CLK 320) Regards, Edgar |

Re: How long will a saturn last?
My 95 has 143K, very please with my decision of buying the car. If you want it to last, you must be very careful. Oil change has to be made at 3kl, I usually do mine around 2500, just to be careful with your car. I also think you paid too much for the car but that is just me. I paid $1000 for mine, however I live in Texas, and here trucks rule the day, which is why I think got a good deal in my car. Best of luck with your car.

Re: How long will a saturn last?
I went to one of local Saturn dealerships to make a key by VIN number as they are only ones who can do it and they had 1991 Saturn Sl1 stick shift, single overhead cam in their showroom encapsulated in glass with 475 000 miles on it and they say that vehicle still runs and drive.
