Aftermarket King

Model years 2003 and 2004 were very interesting for automotive industry. Plenty of new performance vehicles went on sell and for relativly inexpensive prices ($35,000 and under). Just as interesting, is the massive aftermarket support these cars have had since their introductions. The vehicles I speak of are the Nissan 350Z, Mazda RX-8, Dodge Neon SRT-4, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Subaru WRX STI, Pontiac GTO, and the Volkswagen R32. Which of these vehicles do you believe so far has had the greatest aftermarket success? Which of these vehicles has so far proven itself to be the Aftermarket King (in this comparison), regardless of prices?

Re: Aftermarket King

I'm gonna have to say the SRT-4, simply because it's the cheapest of the bunch and the most accessible to just about anyone.

I agree with kman. No best offer than the SRT-4 if you want a FAST car.

Re: Aftermarket King

i'm not too sure as to what gto has done with there aftermarket. but its the same exact engine as the c5 vette. so i would say the gto is pretty dang far up there.
i wish lingenfelter could get ahold of it

Re: Aftermarket King

out of those i think the EVO and SRT4 had the biggest market last year.

But I would venture to say that the civic beats them all lol altezzas

GTO? Pretty sure they did. Motor Trend had one last magazine? Can't remember. However, there were 3 different packages, each varying in horsepower.

The GTO and the Evo would get my nod for most potential for High HP...

Engine wise, I lean towards the GTO. After all, you can get parts like this off the shelf for the LS1.

Kinsler fuel injection manifold. Individual throttle bodies, adapts mechanical or EFI setup. Made out of cast aluminum and Extrude Honed for maximum flow.

For the chassis, I'm going to have to say 350Z since the aftermarket very quickly has pounced on improving the Z's handling. Stillen, is of course, on top of things quite handily, plus Nismo is finally stateside.

Overall, though, the Mopar factory support for the SRT-4 is topnotch. I've seen Mopar do some pretty radical stuff (like the old Direct Connection DOHC conversion head for GLH Omnis that was ultra top dollar, gotta know the secret handshake to get it) but never have I seen them embrace a car as fully as they have the SRT-4.

Re: Aftermarket King

It's actually not too bad. There are a few good turbocharger/supercharger for it.

Actually and just stating facts, there are approx. 40 EVOs street legal/street driven that have run 11 seconds and faster in the 1/4 mile, compared to only 3 or 4 SRT-4 street legal/street driven SRT-4s.

Re: Aftermarket King

actually i believe the gto has a LS6, the LS1 is old news (i think), any how it would kill in the aftermarket. you've all heard of summit racing. world's largest performance supplier. they carry soooooo much LT1, LS1, and LS6 stuff, it's mind blowing. if you ever make it to the summit headquarters, the showroom makes you wish you bought a camaro, vette, or 5.0. huge aftermarkets, as in QUALITY aftermarket, not taiwanesse CAI's and high flow cats.
