08 cobalt purchased new for wife. drl stopped working. Dealer says need to replace bcm for over 800 dollars. car has only 54,000 miles on it and dealer is only one ever worked on this car. She needs this safety feature so told dealer to fix it. Just seems like an expensive fix and am disabled Vietnam vet with limited income. Does this sound like a common fix for drl's and is it normal for dcm to go out with only 54,000 miles. appreciate any advice. Ever since the dealer fixed ignition key recall she now has to turn steering wheel hard left or right to lock it when ignition is turned off. It didnt require that much before recall fix. Dealer says it's normal. Anyone have any ideas

BCM replacement is not unusual on a Cobalt. As far as the recall...I've done LOTS and have never had one affect the steering, so not sure what to tell you there.

Re: drl

service mgr called late today, they replaced bcm but they are having problems. Still don't have daytime running lamps and they don't know why. They were somewhat hesitant in describing problem and I had the impression they were running into other problems also. Vehicle is going to be kept all weekend and they will try again Monday to fix problem. They mentioned they had been in touch with gm techs all day to find out what problem is without success. I have reservations and quite concerned.
