??? 2001 Bonne SE Intake Blowout/Blowup ???
Back in February when it was about 15 degrees I attempted to start the car before turning the key all the way I heard an explosion. When I opened the hood the plastic intake at the top of the motor had blown out, ripping off the engine cover and with it a whole bunch of connections. Does anyone have any input as to what happened?
When the key is turned the car is completely dead, even on accessory. |

Can we have a photo of that? Was the engine warm from a recent run? ANy relevant details can help in trying to understand what happened...somewhat weird! We would speculate some fuel had leaked...and an electrical spark ignited the fumes...but ????? Or a backfire ???....

I agree...was the engine completly cold, or was it recently shut off?
Were you having power problems prior to this? Yes, you could have had a fuel leak(there was a recall for f/p regulators, not sure if it covered your particular year)....other possibility is a hole directly above the stovepipe of the EGR tube in the lower intake, blowing a hole in the top of the plastic plenum..... Would like to see pictures if possible... |
