Indeed it's fantastic that they're showing it off. Presumably with the 675LT they're pushing it as longtail heritage so it'll accompany it wherever.

Desperately hope to see it (and XP1 LM) running up the hill at Goodwood. All well and good seeing it looking lovely and shiny whilst static but it'd be amazing to see it at speed.

Re: New York International Auto Show - GT appearance

I was very excited to see the long tail is at the Auto Show, I'm heading there on Tuesday and it'll be my first time seeing a long tail of any sort in person - I can't wait!

A word of warning - a commenter on Jalopnik has stated the GT will only be on display at the show through the end of the day on Easter Sunday and then it will be removed. I'm not sure of the validity of his claim, but getting there sooner (if possible) would probably be better.

I can't really see them bringing it all this way only to remove it after a few days. Maybe M.S.O. can offer some insight on their plans?

I saw that commenter - I'm sure they must have misunderstood, as you said I can't see them bringing it all the way here and then removing it a couple of days later, especially when the show only opens to the public today and then runs for another week on Sunday.

Re: New York International Auto Show - GT appearance

The other thing that didn't make sense was he said in a different comment they had to build an extended ramp with a very gradual slope just to get it into the booth (probably for the P1 GTR as well) which he said stretched all the way across and into Cadillac's space.

I'm sure they could make the arrangements to get it out if they absolutely have to, but that seems inconvenient to do midway through the show. I hope he just misunderstood what he was told as it will be a shame if a large number of show visitors miss the chance to see one of the world's automotive unicorns.

Re: New York International Auto Show - GT appearance

Great to see her out and about more often! sadly I missed my second chance to see her in Geneva. As although I booked hotel and flights, came down with pneumonia and could not travel.

I hope MSO will see fit to display her in the U.K. soon. She Has been in Brussels, Stockholm, Geneva and New York but not in the U.K. !!!???

Re: New York International Auto Show - GT appearance

I was at the New York Auto Show Wednesday and Thursday. It was crazy because on Wednesday, before the 570S debut, they had a pair of 570s in the display, a 675LT and the P1 GTR. On Thursday, the display was completely rearranged, and the F1 GT was there. A very nice surprise.

I got some pictures. I didn't think to look at the time, but going back through my pics, I noticed that the Chassis plate says (in the newer-style McLaren font) "Chassis No. XPGT | 20th Anniversary," which I assume was fitted in the past year. Probably not news to anyone on the forum, but it was surprising to me that they had changed it. (I took a terrible picture of it at the end)

Re: New York International Auto Show - GT appearance

56XPGT's chassis plate was changed for the 20th Anniversary event held at the MTC back in March 2010 (when many of the other F1s in attendance also had their plates changed) which celebrated 20 years from the original 10-hour meeting Gordon held with the team at McLaren Cars to outline his vision for the F1 project.

No one bothered to ask me ( ) but I was not a fan of the idea of changing them. If I had been an owner I'd have done what Nick Mason chose to do and have them place the Anniversary plate elsewhere.

M.S.O previously shared a photo with us of this car's old and new chassis plates together. I recall the old one had a slight difference in the chassis identifier, but don't have the image handy at this moment.

Your photos are really wonderful - thank you for sharing!

Thanks Erik! And thanks for the info about the plate, I would have left it alone, but maybe McLaren made a persuasive pitch.
