Air Filter advice for R33 GTS-T
Greetings my skyline comrades.
I'm thinking of purchasing a "Uni Air Filter" (www.uniflow.com.au) for my R33 since I have read alot of good things about them. Apparently they scored some big marks in a recent Hot4s air filter round up, and they are also Aussie made, hence cheaper then most. But can anyone here tell me from experience, are these any good? Also, what is the safest distance for lowering the R33? I heard that R33 don't respond well to excessive lowering due to the HICAS. Thanks in advance.

HI Mandrake,
The guys at UNique Autosports recommend them (www.uniqueautosports.com.au/), their site will show a few cars with them fitted I imagine. Go the extra mile though, and add the cold air partition so your power doesnt go DOWN, as temps under the hood rise. |

Yeah, I've been to "unique" site many times and they seem to have Uni filters fitted in most cars on their screenshots.
I will make the turbo partition my self, probably out of light aluminium. Unique charge between $95-$450 depending on the material for them which I think is a bit ridiculous.

You may want to consider installing a new TRUST AIRINX filter, which unlike the foam filters (unifilters,02rush etc), the new AIRINX is made of urethane. This means that you dont wash it in solvents and oil it each time you service it, rather you just wash it in warm soapy water and throw it back in. We supplied one recently to an R33 GTST, and the owner is very happy with the performance and the loud sucking noise. I should warn you that the induction noise is fairly loud with these filters.
Anyhow, more info and pics here AIRINX A cold air partition is a good idea when removing the standard airbox. Foam ones seem ok or make up your own using heat insultated rubber. Cheers Motor Zone Online Store |

hey Mandrake (what happened to the digital bit? hehe )
About the lowering thing....u should come to our next Canb meetup and ask Jay95R33, his car is lowered but i think he's found the ride a bit too bumpy, not sure about any probs with the HICAS though.....but he would know more about it all than me If you get this filter, where were you thinking of getting it fitted? Just curious 'cos I've got one I need to get put on |

Lowering a GTS25t
Your first suspension mod's if your on a budget?, upgraded sway bars & camber kit Sure, if you just want the lowered look go for springs, but trust me the difference in traction & handling from doing the bars/camber will impress you!!!
I've gone through the, "lowered springs" or "sway bars" choice, & I've just had the bars/alignment done, the difference before & after was awesome A good aligning session ($45-50) will make a big difference on it's own, as many GTS25t's are badly aligned to start with, then after fitting lowered springs with no other sus' mods, it becomes worse When upgrading to lowered H/D springs, to do the job properly, you should match them to upgraded shocks. FWIW, my rear camber (totally stock unlowered sus') was -1.2o, after the aligning session it was reduced to -0.8o, add to that the adjustable sway bars & it has made the rear much more stable & improved rear grip (especially when the rear squats under accel), it use to snap into sudden o/steer under heavy accel, now it's much more progressive No good having power if you can't get it to the road. Althought, a lowered Skyline does look good , it's just expensive to set-up so you have handling & looks. My 2.2c |

I agree with Whatisname (what IS his name ).
After lowering you might find really bad inside wear. I've been keeping an eye on mine and the wear is even (thank god). I think mine is lowered about 1.5 or 2 inches, with gas struts with coil overs. It is a bit hard for bumpy surburban roads, and at times I can loose acceleration times cause it's jumping over the bumps Whatisname - do you know the alignment settings you used on your car??? It would be a good thing to spread around if you do. On the issue of the HICAS - I can't really comment cause I've got a HICAS lock on mine as well, this disables the HICAS, 'apparently' it's a little bit more partictable on the track. But I really have no idea cause I've never been on the track !!!! If your ever in Canberra I'm happy to take you for a spin and show you the setup. |

Thanks for the responses everyone now I just have to find the right place to get this done. Just out of curiosity how much would proper lowering cost, together with the upgraded sway bars & camber kit?
Shell I thought 'digital' makes me sound like a peace of software so I dropped it. As for the air filter I will fit it my self, apparently it is designed to bolt directly on. I'll let you know how the skyline responds after the upgrade. By the way where do you get your Skyline serviced?
