I just replaced the front axle u-joints. I put the washers back in place but the snap ring doesn't go all the way in. I think the washers are covering up the groove for the snap ring. I bought the seal installer tool when I did this job. Anybody got any ideas or experience with this issue?

Re: 99 F250 SD 4x4

I have put a couple set of seals in, same parts come off. Don't remember it specifically. I look to manuals for torques and such, but been turning wrenches so long most problems I just address without thinking about it, so I don't remember it, lol. Any way you can post up a picture? Are you talking about the snap rings etc underneath the hub?

Re: 99 F250 SD 4x4

Thanks for the feedback. Yes it is the snap ring behind the hub. Seems like after I put the washers in the snap ring won't go in far enough to seat in the groove. Is it possible to push the axle in to far? I get a vibration shortly after taking off then after about 5 minutes or so it smooths out. If I stop then the whole process starts over. Getting frustrated.

You have to turn while pushing to get everything to line up. Once it does, you will know it, the snap ring should fit pretty easily afterwards.
