2004 impala stalls
Have a 2004 impala 3.4. After completely warmed up it stalls, engine cranks, no spark at plugs, fuel pump running with 48 psi, will restart after about 15 minutes and run for about 5 - 10 monutes then stall again. Have replaced ignition module, ignition relay, checked all fuses. Has no check engine light or stored codes, no security light. I have tried cooling off cam sensor and crank sensor with compressed air and it didn't help. It doesn't matter if it is at idle or 1500 rpms, it still quits. I'm just guessing at this point. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Re: 2004 impala stalls
how did you check for a spark ? i would disconnect the neg battery cable and check your connectors on the PCM, undo both with, I beleive, a 7mm socket, ( pull the whole unit out b4 try to diconnect) remove both connectors and squirt some CRC elec contact cleaner on the computer and connector contacts, then reassemble. it wouldn't hurt to do the same to all connections in the ignition circuitry.

Re: 2004 impala stalls
No spark....what about injector pulse? Getting an rpm signal?
Checked for codes? |

Re: 2004 impala stalls
Thanks for replys, i made a lucky guess and fixed it. It was the crank pos sensor on backside of eng block by firewall. I took sensor out, hooked up ohm tester showed 975 resistance cold; took heat gun heated up; resistance went up to 1200 then went to open circuit. Cooled off sensor circuit closed again. Tested 4 times had same results. Installed new sensor and car has run fine. No stalling and restarting when hot. Also i wanted to ask why this eng has 2 crank pos sensors plus a cam pos sensor. The crank sensor on crank pully doesn;t seem to do that much as i unplugged it and eng still started and run. I'am sure there;s a reason for it but it kinda confused me. Thanks again.

Re: 2004 impala stalls
They are two different crank signals......each is used differently as far as timing and fuel injection goes...
