Intermitent electrical problem on 2003 Grand Caravan
All the electrical components that are controlled by the ignition key/switch (radio, power windows, wipers, AC/fan) sometimes don't work when I turn the van on. However, when the key is turned back into accessories position, everything works - never a problem then. I had the ignition switch replaced a few months ago and that seemed to help (didn't occur as often) but now it's back to the way it was before. Just about every time I need the wipers (when it rains), they don't work nor do any of the other things I mentioned previously. Any recommendations on where to start troubleshooting this? Thanks.

Did you have the combination switch or module replaced or just the ignition switch itself? The wipers are controlled by the BCM underneath and the combo module on the column.

Re: Intermitent electrical problem on 2003 Grand Caravan
Just the ignition switch. The person who put it in said that if the ignition switch didn't fix it I'd probably need to replace the BCM at about $700. Thought I'd try to check current etc before I drop that kind of money but wanted to ask for advice on where to start before I do. Would the bad combo module also explain why the radio/windows/AC don't work as well? Everything seems to work fine until I use the wipers (when it rains), then they all go out (i.e. - seems like the use of the wipers is setting if off).

Just had same type problems, my alternator had a bad rectifier. Check to see if you have any AC voltage while running or unplug the alternator to test it.

Re: Intermitent electrical problem on 2003 Grand Caravan
So i took my 2001 Grand caravan to the dealer to fix the acc issue which is when start the car doesnt work then it keeps turning on / off , they called me after two days and said its the electric harness issue so they cleaned n fixed the wires cuz the battery was leaking and thats what caused the issue n charged me $400 !! I paid n got into my car to find out the problem is still the same !! so they refunded me the $400 n kept the car n called m,e back after a day to say it " found that no proper communication from PCM n recommenda new PCM $1140 + tax !!! which is to much money to fix a small issue !!! so i took my car free of charge .
I dont think its PCM issue but who n\knows !! so what you guys think the right thing to do !!! |
