Angry Oil Pressure

I was driving my Van outta town when I started smelling oil burining, I'm gussing it might have sprung a leak and was dripping on the manifold. I stopped at the store and put some oil in and started heading home.

So I'm on the fereeway almost home, still smelling burnt oil... All of a sudden my oil preasure gage goes to zero and lots of oil on the ground had to pull over and have it towed home.

I'll jack it up tomorrow and take a look, any ideas as to what happened?

Re: Oil Pressure

Too many to list. Jack it up, put in some oil, and start the engine, see where it comes out of. Also, pull the engine cover off so you can see the back of the engine from the top.

Re: Oil Pressure

The first thing I'd check is that the oil filter is tight and that it's not leaking around the oil filter gasket. Oil pressure sending units often crack causing a leak too.

Re: Oil Pressure

Sorry, it's been about a year and I finally started checking things out. It's been sittin in the driveway so I suppose there is some build up. I put oil in it and started it up and it's holding pressure and the only leak I'm seeing so far is coming from the back of the oil pan.

So can't tell if it's just the oil pan or the main seal...

Question Re: Oil Pressure

Here is a video of the leak, I'm not understanding why it's not gushing out like it did initially. Looks like a trickle now, it only seems to leak while the motor is running.

This is after about 20 minutes of idling on my driveway...

Re: Oil Pressure

Jack it up, and start the engine again to find out the leakage. Fix it soon before it gets worse.
