hydralic clutch issue

New to the site and i hope someone can help out.I'm restoring a 72 c-10 short bed with many after market parts.I've install a corvette zf 6 speed manual trans. behind a 400 edelbrock fuel injected small block. The trans. year range is from 89 to 96. I bought my hydraulic clutch master cylinder from autozone i believe. While bench bleeding i notice the rod would only press in around a half to a inch at the most.I thought this was odd because how would i be able to in and disengage my clutch of the trans.Well my fears was correct. The clutch master cylinder only move as much as when i bench bled it, so i wasn't able to go into any gears.I would like to know from anyone is this normal of the clutch master cylinder or do i look for something else.Any positive advice can help....Thanks
