This might be easier for those wanting to sign the petition

Cool Re: Should a New Car have an available option for a Spare Tire and Jack?

But seriously, one can save more gas by how they drive, than by removing common sense items such as spare tires and jacks.

I don't think a change.org petition has ever succeeded in changing anything. This will be no different.

Change . org needs to find a new model of how to survive beyond monetizing our personal info(e-mail addresses, etc.)

Ten years ago, I signed a couple petitions on their site, and within a month the amount of political spam mail to my personal e-mail account skyrocketed!

Re: Should a New Car have an available option for a Spare Tire and Jack?

One issue affecting the optional spare tire is that every vehicle would have to be designed with a compartment for a spare tire, whether or not one is present. That's a real problem in designing a self-igniting Duracell vehicle, and even some with more environmentally friendly gasoline engines. When the battery becomes nearly the complete floor pan, that's a real constraint.

It doesn't help that tire/wheel diameters are continuously increasing, making storage of a spare an even greater challenge.
