crank trouble ignition switch clutch switch
88 s10 2.5l
It is starting to fail to crank when turned to the start position of the ignition key switch. when it cranks, it starts very easily. the clutch needs to be depressed as much as possible and the ignition switch needs to be turned as much as possible. If I hold the ignition without a lot of leverage, it doesn't crank. If the pedal isn't completely floored, it doesn't crank. some times it takes two or three tries before it all connects up correctly. getting worse as time passes. a lot worse this last 2 weeks. Question --- does the solenoid for the starter receive power through the key switch or through something that the key switch moves or turns? will replacing the key switch also replace the electrical connections that pass the electricity to the start solenoid? I' checking the clutch switch but it looks ok, maybe a little adjustment. I would like to replace the ignition key switch if needed, but have no clue of how it is done. any hints or suggestions on what to test and how to replace. Or any other suggestion someone might have. Thanks Rex |

Re: crank trouble ignition switch clutch switch
Most GM's in these years have an ignition switch on the steering column. A rod should run from the key lock cylinder to the ignition switch. This is a common problem. Most parts stores carry a new ignition switch.
