What could be going on with my car; scary and annoying. The alarm system is haywire and I am scared to drive all of a sudden? Urgent!!?
I have a CAR issue and am not well-experienced. It is a basic model 2013 Chevy Cruze that was fine until this afternoon. The trunk opened totally randomly and the car alarm went off. Nothing was around the car, key was in plain sight (not pressed), and it just kept going even after I pressed key buttons that usually stop the alarm. It eventually stopped, BUT the alarm went off AGAIN and then AGAIN for apparently random, no reason, and random times. All this afternoon/evening (happened 3 times so far). Loud and annoying. I then searched and discovered my second key and it went THROUGH the washer and dryer. No physical damage to key fob, but maybe it messed up a wire in the key fob and the alarm system went haywire. I haven't tried the key that went though the laundry yet, but dried it and moved it far away from my car. A neighbor said the alarm system can be triggered by a faulty battery(original)? Loose connections? Car has no damage or no new recent events. Runs fine (with no laundry washed key). No lights on dash are lit. What should I do/look at/tighten to help fix and stop this random alarms? Safe to drive? ALL help means a lot, going insane. lol. Thanks!!

I had a similar situation years ago. It's the original battery in the car. They are only designed to last 3 years max, so yours is past its sell-by date.
