Flickering dash guage
My 2005 impala started just fine this morning. Went to car wash(never made it) and the dash guage lights began to flicker, abs, air bag, battery, brake light, gas gauge went hay wire. It did this intermintantly. I checked the battery connection .. No issues ... Checked the charge it reads 14.2 steady even when flickering. Any suggestions? Ps. The car still runs smooth and continuesto start just fine.

Re: Flickering dash guage
probably the BCM. I had an open in my driver side door lock and I unplugged one of connectors ( with power off) on the BCM to do a continuity check from the BCM to the IP junction block. I forgot to put the connectors back on, had all 3 off, tried to start the car would not even click, took the key out , reconnected the connectors, then several days after all the lights and info tracing box , mileage ....etc would go blank, then comeback, all else worked durring the black outs. It went away after a few days.

How hard is it to replace the bcm? Could it be the ignition?

Re: Flickering dash guage
Would a bcm problem have anything to do with operation of heat/ac fan not blowing?

Re: Flickering dash guage
not sure, throwing parts at the car will not fix it. What happens when the fan is off , u press the A/C button and turn the fan to the lowesr setting, does the light on the a/c button come on and can u hear the compressor clutch engage. If you can, it might be a bad fuse or the fan control module is bad, can't remember the exact name, but it is a real pain to replace. I assume none of the fan settings work, mine setting 5 did not work. Not sure if the body control module controls the A/C clutch or not. So did u just loose your lighting or did u loose everything like when there is no key in the ignition, u know the mileage, info tracking display...etc?
if you replace the BCM u will need someone w/ a tech2 or MDI to link the BCM to the PCM. |

Re: Flickering dash guage
The fan went out several weeks ago, i was trying to see if there was a link with my other issues .... When the the dash gauges flicker they do so simultaneously and i cant tell if the head lights are flickering too i drove about 35 miles and the gauge flickering happened near the end of my ..... The best way to describe what is happening .... When i turn the key over and all the lights, guages and seat belt alarm sounds during a normal start ... This is whats happening sporadically while driving and yes the milage guage and gear guage goes does this too .... this is what i mean when i say they are flickering while im driving

Re: Flickering dash guage
Your BCM has lost it. Easy and free fix.
Connect a trickle charger to the battery, observing correct polarity. Park the car in the sun so the auto headlights stay OFF. Put down your driver's window. In case the locks activate with the key in the ignition you can get in the car. Put the ignition key in, turn it to start and turn off. Do not start the car. Remove the key and put it back in . Leave the ignition on for 30 mins. Do not use the radio or operate any accessories. Keep the lights off. Your security light should go off. Take out the key and replace it. Start the car. You should be good to go. If the problem persists take to a good mechanic that does electrical. Also make sure the connections are tight on the BCM. Good luck to you. John ![]()

Re: Flickering dash guage
SierraK1500, what does that have to do with a flashing dash, on a car that starts ok?
It almost sounds like you are describing a relearn procedure for the PassLock system, but the car is starting ok...... Sounds more like a bad power or ground connection to the IPC..... |

Re: Flickering dash guage
Ha...welcome to the Impala club...the worse piece of junk GM ever made. My wife has a 2002 Impala. Her problems started with the gas gauge going out. Don't know if there is 1 gallon or 15 gallons of gas in the tank. We just fill her up, set the mileage to O, then fill her up again when she hits 200 miles of driving.
Next her instrument cluster lights started flashing across the dash...Low Coolant...ABS...Service Required...Random and usually starts after she has driven about 10 miles. Next her A/C and heat started cutting off and on along with the radio. Found that you could bump the bottom of the dash just to the right of the steering column and it would kick back on for a time. We have been to two GM dealerships and 2 different independent mechanics, one of which has been into GM stuff for 3 decades. ![]() THEY HAVE FOUND NOTHING THAT COULD BE CAUSING ALL THIS. The two GM mechanics said the gas gauge and sensors were good when tested and everything else worked fine when tested and diagnosis was run. Cars like this one is probably why GM failed in the 2000's. Pieces of junk. We can't afford another car at this juncture due to health bill issues but when we do it definitely WON'T BE A GM product. ![]() |

Re: Flickering dash guage
I had a 2005 Impala before I traded for my 2012. I replaced the fan motor and blower. Solved the dead fan issue. Brushes in the motor wore out. As far as intermittent dash condition you have a bad connection.
Gas gauge condition: This is actually an extremely common problem with GM vehicles. You are going to need to replace the Fuel Level Sensor. The sensor has tiny metal "teeth" that are raised and lowered against the metal contact by the float arm. These teeth have a tendancy to wear out and cause faulty readings. The sensor is located inside the fuel tank, mounted to the side of the fuel pump assembly. Read more: http://www.justanswer.com/chevy/3yqv...#ixzz3gS1NSwMD This was copied from a website John
