Seat belt light and air bag light
I have an 03 Chevy impala. The air bag light has been on for a year now. At the same time the light came on the fasten seatbelt light stopped coming on. I've checked all connections and they appear good. Could the part you put the belt into to buckle be broken? Other ideas?
Thanks |

Re: Seat belt light and air bag light
Seat belt should have nothing to do with the air bag light....
UNLESS, you seat belts have pretensioners...... Air bag light on for a year? The first starting point is get the code scannned....however, code readers can't read these codes, and most scanners can either....you need a high end scan tool to read them..... |

Re: Seat belt light and air bag light
If when I start the car and the seatbelt warning light comes on as it does until the seatbelt is put on, the airbag warning light will flash as normal and then go out.
If the seatbelt warning light never comes on (even if no seatbelt is buckled) the airbag warning light will stay on after flashing. It used to be 50/50 on which event would occur, but now the seatbelt light never flashes or turns on and the airbag warning light never turns off. The root cause may not be the seatbelt system, but the two issues are related somehow. Perhaps the BCM? |

Re: Seat belt light and air bag light
My 2001 the seatbelt light never comes on anymore and it did when i got it in 2008. Perhaps your Seatbelt light bulb is burned out? as far as the Airbag Light check the fuse (altough i wouldnt worry i yanked the fuse out on mine the second i got it home) the airbag fuse is in the fuse box on the driver side of the dash.

Re: Seat belt light and air bag light
I agree with TechII
Run codes.....you have an issue with the Seat belt light system. Not the BCM in all cases. In any case a malfunction in the Airbag system is dangerous. The bag can deploy while you are driving or at anytime. Have the dealer check it. Besides they have to be serviced after 10 years as the bag disintegrates over time.
