2.0L timing marks

I'm putting a new timing chain on my 99 tracker 2.0L, cause the old broke...I toke the off and got it planed and replace 2 intake valves...so now I'm put it all back to gather and I need to know where to put all the timing marks....

I highly suggest buying a service manual for this procedure because: Turning the camshafts and the crankshaft once the timing chain is removed.Valve and piston damage can and may occur.



The number 1 cylinder is at the Top Dead Centre position.
The keyway on the crankshaft aligns with the mark on the engine block.
The arrow on the idler sprocket is pointing upward.
The guide pins on the camshaft sprocket line up with the notches on the cylindre head.

go to autozone.com and check the repair manuals there free on there. I just did one and got the info on there good luck. EZFrank

i have a book and it says to place chain from crank to idler with the lower yellow link on chain toward block but then both colored link are facing inward and can't see if they are aligned right and all the online guides i find should the colored links facing away from the block so you can see them, they are not equal lengths apart so it does make a different what way chain goes on. is the book wrong or the online guides?
