2000 Spindle/transmission clunk
Hi guys it's me again,
Everything has been working great with my windstar since the last time; today I was working on the front brakes when I rotated the rotor and noticed a clunk coming from the transmission (was in Park). I've uploaded a video about it. There are no problems with the transmission and was rebuilt almost year ago, I've done the same with other cars but I don't think the sound was as loud as this one; is that something I should be worried about? Watch the video here Thanks in advance for any help! Oscar.

Re: 2000 Spindle/transmission clunk
Any idea guys? I've been searching but can't find any info on what would be a normal clunk or a tolerance on the rotation...
Thanks in advance, Oscar.

Just to let you know that I have read this post, but I have no idea of what is normal.

Re: 2000 Spindle/transmission clunk
Thanks wiswind,
I guess I'll just let it be since the transmission has no noise or slipping problems but I just think it's a bit too much noise/play maybe it's the way the transmission was designed... anyway I'll wait to see if anybody else has any idea or I'll just forget about it until something breaks LOL. Thanks again for your help! Oscar.

I didn't watch the video, so I'm stabbing in the dark here, but could the noise just be the parking pawl falling into a notch?

Re: 2000 Spindle/transmission clunk
I have about the same amount of looseness/noise in my '99's tranny ... which has approx 100k on its remanufactured tranny. I consider it normal. Remember that the parking pawl is on the "input" side of the differential gears, and perhaps the drivechain ... so you are experiencing the looseness in that whole gearset.
