Brake Light Problem - Need Help
My High mount brake light is the only one working... i thought the bulbs had blown but,not the case,
i triple checked the fuses and all were okay also, i replaced the brake light switch... and still nothing. The new one clicks when i hit the brakes, not sure that is all about (maybe adjustment). What are the common places to check for burned or broken wires, wire color would also help.... When i turned my headlights on, all lights in the rear are fine, the flashers are fine, I'm convinced that my broken wire is near the bulb..... Any help is appreciated. Ray |

Re: Brake Light Problem - Need Help
Have you run any tests using a multimeter on the brake switch wires? Otherwise, i'd check for a possible short in the ground for the lower lights/wires using the meter.
You could "Rig" something, but see what the meter sez first... |

I did find out that model yr 94-95 have there brake lights wired to the turn signal switch and they have been prone to fail. The high mount stop light is wired directly to its own circuit. 95% sure i need a new turn signal switch. |

Get your list of stuff together for that project...steering-wheel puller, etc...
At least you'll know it's fixed once its done |

Re: Re: Re: Brake Light Problem - Need Help
Electrical problems can be a pain to trace, but I also think you might want to measure if you're getting correct voltage coming from the turn signal switch. In an earlier reply it said that the brake lights are wired into the turn signal switch.
I had the exact same problem on my '72 Ford LTD: turn signals OK, but no brake light. It has 2 feed wires coming from the brake light switch going to the turn signal switch. One feeds left stop & rear turn, the other right stop & rear turn. (Front turn signals have their own separate contacts in the switch). If the switch fails, like on mine, this is one possible effect. But do measure out the switch before you buy a new one, 'cause it might as well be just a bad wire... Good luck, Wekke 94 Olds Cutlass Ciera 3.1 72 Ford LTD |

Re: Brake Light Problem - Need Help
I have a 94 buick regal and my brake lights do the same. the turn signals work the four ways work and park lights work but when i hit the brakes the third brake light only comes on. It used to work sometimes not it seems that it doesnt work at all. Could the turn signal switch be my problem also?

Re: Brake Light Problem - Need Help
Wiggle the hazard flasher switch- turn it on and off about 10 times- then try brake lights and/or turn signals- The hazard switch is least used and contacts can become non-continuous- so wear the in alittle and see if it helps. Brake lights and turn signals are fed through this switch.....
Try the above before replacing switch- it works for me most of the time...
