Radio question
I have a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier which has a double din cassette and radio. I don't know much about cars. I was wondering is it possible to install a single din cd player in a double din? And if so, is there anything I'm gonna need other than the single din cd player?
Thanks |

Re: Radio question
Yes, all you'll need is an in-dash reciever kit. It's pretty much just a piece of plastic trim that makes the double DIN area a single DIN area. All stereo stores will sell them, even Best Buy and Wal-Mart should have what you need. Here's an example:

All these parts are relatively inexpensive. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207018...e-Harness.html http://www.crutchfield.com/p_12040GM...a-Adapter.html The biggest problem you'll have is removing the dash to install the CD player. Here's a guide to use: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=321030 |

Re: Radio question
Crutchfield also has a handy tool (which is actually a database of most vehicle radio fit specifications) which allows you to match any radio to your specific vehicle. Register there, then select "Outfit my Car". You'll get all the necessary sizing data free of charge.
Even if you don't buy from them, use the database to match a radio that fist your car. If you do buy the radio from Crutchfield, in most cases, they include the necessary generic harnesses as well as the trim plate for free. They also send you detailed installation instructions free of charge. |

Re: Radio question
Buy the mounting kit for your model year and the proper single din kit will be supplied. Its been a while since I've owned a j or contributed... I don't honestly remember, but pretty sure 00-05 were the double din.
