AND ALSO WHEN THE WIRES ARE CONNECTED IT WILL GET HOT IT ACTS LIKE IT MAY HAVE A HARD DRAW, DOES ANY BODY HAVE ANY IDEAS WHAT MAY BE CAUSING THAT |

I don't see logic in your diagnosis, (belt noise created with electrical problem). - it is normal for alternators to get hot, that is why they have fan mounted on the pulley. - if you think it is alternator, remove belt, and try to spin pulley by hand see how hard it moves. |

Re: 02 grandam belt
ya by removing the wires off the alt the belt noise will go away
I have changed out the ac compresser ideler pullery and put a used alt on that did help out some but in a few minunts of running the alt will will get hot enough that you can not put your hand on it with the wires hooked up unhook them the belt noise will be gone and the alt will not get that hot its like it has a lot of draw on it, what other problem could it be that I am over looking I have changed the brand of belts thinking that one belt was made to hard (cheaper brand) the idler pulley and tenchener thinking it could be it I have been fighting this sence the engine was changed Thanks |

Re: 02 grandam belt
It is normal for the alternator to be too hot to touch.
Car alternator are awfully bad for efficiency, some source claim 50% efficiency. At 14.4V 50A 50% that's 720W of energy produced and 720W of heat generated. Are you sure that the new engine puley are the same size as the old one? Have you spill some oil/grease somewhere? Check the belt diagram. Are you sure you passed the belt the right way? You could have passed the belt on the outside of a pulley instead of the inside, which might work "flawlessy" but end up with an extra length of belt. As for an electrical issue... Check the battery voltage. Before starting thge car it should be at about 12.4-12.8V. when the motor is running it should be around 14.4V, might be a bit lower but sure thing should be over 13V. If you turn off the engine, does it start up again a day later? |

Re: 02 grandam belt
alt is charging good right at 14.2 and battery is is fully charged and passed a load test, the belt is routed as the book states
the car always starts but as soon as a load is put on it (ac or the cooling fans kick on) the belt starts making the slipping noise I have tryed belt dreesing on it and the other belts that we used and made no differnce Thanks, |
