Could flipping my air cover over hurt my engine?

Hi all,

This might sound a bit silly, but I was wondering if flipping my air cover over could have any adverse effect on my engine?

(I was doing it for diagnostic purposes -- I think it was running too rich and it now runs far better with all the extra air it is getting).

At first I thought something was very wrong because when I floored it, it sounded like the engine was possessed by a demon or something it was WAY louder and aggressive sounding.

I live in Arizona and the temps are above 70 and humidity is usually low. Do I need to just avoid having it flipped while it is raining? Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks.

1985 Caprice 305 e4me quadrajet 109k+ miles.

Driven in severe weather most of the year (Arizona 100+ degrees during summer heat or in wet weather especially in harsh monsoons). About 30/70 highway/city driving.

If the pvc valve connects to the air cleaner make sure that there is a filter in the holder. I did this for years on a 1982 Delta 88, it does make for a very agressive sound, that is why I did it.. In todays world, it probably will make people look, they don't hear that much anymore.

Re: Could flipping my air cover over hurt my engine?

as long as the temp is above 55 deg f it will work....also when it gets above 100 deg f the air entering wil be cooler giving you extra power with the denser air..I have done this and got slightly better MPG ..also when towing I got more power with a dual ram air setup I fabricated ..

obviously where I live this is only for about 4 months max in the summer...

the crankcase breather that sets into the air cleaner will need a good filter on it ...especially in dusty az....use a god filter material with oil in it to catch the dust...

Haha yeah i've been doing the same with mine for about a year no prob..only below 55 degrees like everyone else has said. It sounds SOOO nice though!!

I always just put a small piece of tape over the hole where the bolt goes through just to make sure my engine isnt breathing in the rats nest of a hood liner my car has lol
