My Darn Radio

I just bought a 1995 Neon. Love it now that I can drive it. However today I was driving and my radio crapped out. Checked the fuses and seems ok (haven't tried changing it yet cause it visually looks ok) anything else to check for?

Re: My Darn Radio

Well, there are amplifiers on the speakers themselves. However, they would have all had to crap out at the same time, which is very unlikely. If the fuse is fine I would suspect that the head unit is bad. After all, they weren't all that great in the first place.

Re: My Darn Radio

actually the radio doesn't power on at all....Is there more than one fuse that runs it? Or just the big 30 amp?

10 amp fuse # 13 under the hood and 10 amp # 16 under the left side of the dash supply power to the radio. A 95 Neon doesn't have powered speakers from the factory not sure where that idea came from.

Angry Re: My Darn Radio

it appears not to be the fuse. My radio decided to turn on today and then later when I went out it decided it doesn't want to go on. anything else I should check? Or should I just install an aftermarket...>Driving in silence sucks

Re: My Darn Radio

That is your choice I personally like OEM radios, less likely to get stolen. I got my last one off ebay a nice CD-cassette. You should verify that even though the fuse is OK that you have power. The pink wire is hot all the time and the red & white one is hot with ignition. Also be sure that the ground strap is hooked up on both ends. A Neon has a plastic dash so it need that to work. I do have one radio that when you install it it works but the next day it won't come on unless I unhook it and re-hook it up.
