Aux Trans cooler install - pipe routing???
.
Being "good with a wrench", I plan to install a large size Aux transmisison cooler myself. re: http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/OC-1678.html Currently, there's 2 x 3/8" (???) transmission cooler lines going into the side of my 2009 Montana van's main Rad. One line at the TOP passenger side and one line at the BOTTOM passenger side (of the main RAD). For the Aux transmission cooler install, do I cut / re-route the top pipe or the bottom pipe? Notes: A - Hoping to route piping from transmission into main rad, out of main Rad, into large size aux transmission cooler, then back to transmission. Was told this is the best "fluid flow" path to use. B - This larger size aux cooler is probably an over kill for most mini-vans but my region does have lots of hills and hot summer days. Thus, bigger is better. Especially when towing a trailer. Thanks for your piping cut / re-routing recommendations. . Last edited by spike88; 04-25-2009 at 12:18 PM. |

Re: Aux Trans cooler install - pipe routing???
.
Having great weather in my woods today, I bought and installed the Hayden cooler in my 2009 Montana van's most front RAD position. re: http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/OC-1678.html This 10" x 12" cooler was bolted on 2 x vertical steel supports and these supports are bolted on both top and bottom. Very simple support system - instead of using pull-ties across the factory rads. Would have taken pictures of finished install but my digital camera needed to be charged. (very sad). My van's needed Hayden tranny cooler unit is now bolted in. My next step (next weekend) is to connect its rubber hoses. And if wondering, I was told to splice off the main rad's TOP line. Very simple under 1 hour task to complete. If wondering, I will post pictures when its 3/8 rubber lines are connected and its hoses are tie-wrapped (secured) as well. As they say in Rome, "a few more hours and she'll be done". My new van's trailering upgrades will finally be done. . Last edited by spike88; 04-26-2009 at 01:43 AM. |

My digital camera's batteries finally charged up. Below is a few URLs containing pictures of the Aux Cooler I installed in my '09 Montana van (using 2 x vertical steel supports). I plan to connect its 3/8 rubber hoses next week. Hopefully, these pictures help others - if you plan to install a future 9x11.5 aux cooler in your Uplander / Montana van as well. Re: Aux Trans cooler install - pipe routing???
.
Today, I took an extra long lunch hour and installed / connected the 3/8" rubber hoses to my previously bolted down aux transmission cooler. Had to use the "special order" 90 degree pipe from my local NAPA store off the top of the main rad. And, its bottom pipe was a "pain" to cut and clamp down as well. But other then those PITA things, connecting the hoses went great. For my technical skills, a very easy install. Next time, I could do both Rad and hose installs in 1/2 the time. Finally... 100% of my van's trailering upgrades / installs is now completed. My '09 Montana EWB van can now tow either of my utility trailers without worry. Especially for my larger 6 x 10 max 3,600 lbs "loaded" trailer - that needs an aux oil cooler and brake controller in the van. . |
