Transmission problem

I am looking to buy a srt-4 here soon and came accross one for a great price. It drove great but it did have a bad grind in first gear. He claimed it was the syncro going out but i have no idea. It would only grind when going into first when the car was moving. As long as i put it in first from a stop it had no problems.

Any ideas on what it is and how much it would cost?
Also what is stock boost for an srt-4?

Thanks Gavin

Re: Transmission problem

I'll put it to you like this...when things seem to good to be true then they probably are. BUT on a more technical side...how fast were you going when you were trying to put it in first? I never put it in gear while rolling since it puts a lot of stress on the tranny. Anything above 5mph and that's probably the reason it is grinding.

Stock boost for an srt is generally 1 bar(14.7psi)

Re: Transmission problem

not sure on speed, maybe 14mph but does it matter with the clutch in?

Re: Transmission problem

See that's the problem right there...you can't physically get the car into first gear(safely) unless you are going under 5mph.

Re: Transmission problem

hey endless! i have a problem with my tranny too! it will not engage for some reason! i was driving on freeway one day when my tranny just gave out! i put a new clutch in thinking it was that but wasnt the case.. they guy told me that tranny won't engage! some thing in the tranny was bent or damaged!i can put it in geer there are no noises no grinding nothing! even the day when my tranny gave out there was no noises no brakeing noise.. its like the tranny just completely disconnected from the engine. i know that sounds funny.any idea? could it be something small in the tranny that can be fixed or am i looking at replacing the whole thing?
