97' Nissan Altima idleing rough then bogging out.

I recently replaced the starter on my car 97' Nissan Altima GXE and after starting the car it idles really bad and just shuts off. I drove it around and sometimes it would run fine and other times even at higher rpms, it would just shut off. I noticed a hose that wasn't connected to anything after I was done with the work. I looked and couldn't find where it goes. I had to take the air filter assembly off to get to the start mouting bolts when I replaced the starter. The hose is coming from the transmission (not sure, it is coming from a large block coming off the main part of the engine on the drivers side). Other threads said it was the transmission breather hose and that it doesnt need to be connected to anything. However, my car never ran like this before I put the new starter on. Any ideas about where the hose may go and on the car shutting off after I start.

under the hood there should be a diagram with vacuum hose routing's. Consider purchasing a repair manual, or many library's have auto repair books.
