95 Windstar P/S return hose quesion
Hi, all:
I have a 95 windstar 3.8L. I do not have the service manual yet and need to figure out which hoses are the P/S return hoses and P/S pressure hoses? is there any way to tell? Also, has anyone replaced the metal tubing that is in front of the radiator and goes into the rubber hoses that in turn go to the PS reservoir? if so, what is the part number (from the ford services manual) for that tubing? Thank you, |

Re: 95 Windstar P/S return hose quesion
You could try looking the information up on www.rockauto.com as they often have additional information for a number of parts.
I have a feeling the the non towing package tube cooler will be a dear only item. The power steering hoses are 3/8" ......transmission fluid cooler hoses are 5/16" Your '95 will be like my '96 The metal tubing that is in front of the radiator is the power steering cooler (NOT to be confused with the power steering cooler that is part of the towing package). The return line is the one that goes into the bottom front of the resevoir. The high pressure line out of the front of power steering pump goes to the steering rack.....then the fluid flows from the rack to the "cooler" in front of the radiator.

Re: 95 Windstar P/S return hose quesion
Thank you so much!!!
I have located two manufacturers that appear to carry this item. EDELMANN (#92129) and GATES (#365504) as per rockauto.com database. One thing to point out is that GATES has a lifetime limited warranty, while EDELMANN does not appear to have one. This is what the cust. rep. told me. Now I am facing next question.. ...In order to remove the P/S cooler line do I need to remove the front bumber or not? I tried to do it without removing the front bumper and could not figure out how, unless the car is hydrolically lifted at about 3 feet above the ground, which I do not have. How do you guys do it? Should I start removing the front bumper? |

Re: 95 Windstar P/S return hose quesion
Just wanted to update you guys on the price of the return line fluid cooler replacement that I am working on.
So I called to the independent shop (90.00/hr) they told me it would cost about $100-$120 (parts + labor). I called the dealer, they told me the part itself is ~$56 Went to CarQuest, they got it for me for ~$17. |

I looked the job up in alldatadiy, they do not specify between the standard pipe cooler and the optional (towing package) cooler with the fins.....but they DO say to remove the front bumper.
