66 chevelle - body work
Another qestion for the paint/body guy - ur advice was well taken on paint sys. Now i have several creases on the driver side this teenager clipped someones mail box or whatever. Just ahead of rear wheel well opening there is a hand sized dent that just missed the wheel well flare. The body shop just put grinder marks and bondo. I have no problem removing rear kick panel to get at other side. What is the best way to message the mtal out without distorting the overall contour of the rear quarter panel. Total depth is probably 1/4 ". I do have a nice wire welder. There are two more creases in the door that are less severe. I do have picts of damage.

An experienced metalman with a hammer and dolly can correct most issues like this, many books are available on the subject, also.

Re: 66 chevelle - body work
I picked up a great set of hammers and dollies (China) for just a few bucks and worked nicely. Its worth the price even if you use them on just a few dents. It may take a couple of hours of careful gentle work to fix the panel.
An oxy-acetylene torch and wet rags helps too. It can 'shrink' stretched and distorted metal. Just using Bondo is useless and just plain wrong. Those shop guys do not know what they are doing. |
