ScanGauge question
I am looking to buy a ScanGauge for my 1996 Metro to help improve my fuel economy. I am wondering if anyone can offer comments on this device...
1. www.pureenergysystems.com sells this for $164.95 - is there a better supplier for this device? Are these guys reputable? 2. Has anyone installed one in a Geo, is the display readable? Where did you mount it? 3. Is there a better device out there that gives this kind of real-time data? Thanks in advance, Ren |

Re: ScanGauge question
mainemetro;
Some of your questions can probably be answered by using the search function on the forum. In my case all my metros are OBDI so I can't take advantage of this tool but I've heard good things about them. I did stumble across a forum here: http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=32 that appears to have lots of discussion on the scangauge. Last edited by idmetro; 11-15-2006 at 02:51 PM. |

Re: ScanGauge question
I am unfamilliar with the vendor you cited.
The ScanGuage II is sold by the maker here: http://www.scangauge.com/ for $169 I have the original SC and I'm using it in my '96 3 cyl Metro. I mounted it on the dash, using the supplied self-adhesive velcro strips. The display is easy to read day/night, though I see the version II is much smaller and even has a bigger display. The TRIP & MPG info is very useful, but for help in 'staying out' of the throttle the TPS (throttle position sensor) data is, indeed, very useful. Keeping the TPS below 25 isn't easy, if you have a tendecy to accelerate hard. I do not know of any other (aftemarket) self-contained device that allows you to view this data. Peace, Mike |

Re: ScanGauge question
I have the original Scangage on my 99. I mount it also on the dash with velcro for easy reading. I run the OBD cord through the glove compartment, behind the radio, then plugged into the OBD port below the dash - that way I can store the Scangage in the glove compartment when parked for extended periods in public. I keep it plugged into the port at all times.
It will help you get better fuel mileage by showing you real-time MPG, then you can adjust your driving habits accordingly. It will show any 4 parameters that you can scroll through and chose yourself. It is also a code reader and will reset them. The backlight is adjustable for daytime or nightime readability. There are A LOT of features to it, and I find the MPG to be accurate to within .1 or .2 MPG, which is close enough for me. Summary: LOVE IT! I bought mine from Scangage. |
