How to striaghten steering wheel after pitman and idler arm replacement
Well good ole NY safety inspection crap, shop said I needed a pitman arm and idler arm. I did oil change and lube job 1 month ago and everything was fine truck steered and and tracked great. Now after the shop replaced the pitman arm and idler arm for $ 350 the steering wheel while going straight is half way between horizontal and verticle. I do not want any further dealings with this shop. I usually do all the work on my truck but if I took it out of the shop I would have to pay for reinspection and loose the vehicle for another day or two. How do I striaghten the steering wheel, remove the pit man arm and rotate it on the splines ? Thanks for all replies !!

Re: How to striaghten steering wheel after pitman and idker arm replacement
Take it to an alignment shop and get it fixxed.
They'll give you a print out of before and after spec's which will prove that the first shop didn't do their job properly. In my opinion that being a safety issue means that they can be shut down for not having fixxed it properly. So it's in their best intrest to try and please you. If you don't get the alignment done you'll wear out tires fast, along with other parts, and there's a chance that it'll do really weird things while driving on wet or slipery roads. |

if it drives stright the tires wont wear excessively (could, but itd be a weird one to see the toe be out oppisit ways within specs) but it can do damage to the power steering pump... take obp advice, have it aligned and bring the dip shit shop the bill, bitch about the safty issue, and turning them into the state

Have an alignment done.
You doing it on your own will only have the alignment out and wearing out the components again. An alignment shop has to align the wheel when the truck is on the rack.
