89 bronco
I am looking at an 89 full size bronc w/ a 300 i-6 w/ a manual trans. the truck has 132k miles on it and has a newer clutch. there are no leaks or any burning oil. is there anything i should look out for in particular? i will either buy this or an 88 suburban w/ 6.2 diesel. I have heard that the 300 i-6 is a very reliable, is this true? any responses are much appreciated.

Re: 89 bronco
If you are sure this is the vehicle you want, then take it to a shop for an inspection. This way the truck can be put on a lift and the suspension and brakes can be checked. And anything else under the vehicle. Are the maintenance records available? Make sure everything works, check all accessories, windows, lights, etc. Use the keys in all the locks, check all the door handles, seat belts, etc. Sit in all the seats and make sure that all adjustments if applicable work. Have a compression check done on the motor and look at the spark plugs to see if the fuel mixture is right. If you have to have an emmissions test done to transfer title, make sure all the emmissions equipment is there and functioning. Make a list of questions to ask the owner, and don't be afraid to ask. Don't assume you know how everything works, ask.
The more you know about the vehicle before purchasing, the happier you will be with it after purchasing. |

Re: 89 bronco
True. and yes, the 300 i-6 has a great reputation. My neighbor has one in his f-150 and he raves.
In comparison between the Bronc and Suburban, I think the Bronc's wheelbase makes it easier to park, and drive. (Not in that order.) I, personnally, feel that Suburbans are too big for daily use, unless you tote around 7 people all day/every day. |
